Achieving Homeownership Through Education
The journey to homeownership may seem like a daunting process. Jon Izenbart, Branch Manager of our Wyoming, MI office, helps alleviate the stress many first-time buyers go through with a simple concept – education.
For nearly three years, Jon has taught Introduction to Homeownership classes through Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF), a local Grand Rapids organization. ICCF provides housing opportunities and services to those who need it in the community. Along with affordable housing, they help prepare future homeowners through homeownership education opportunities.
The 6-hour long homeownership class offers an extensive overview of the home buying process, and covers topics such as homeownership readiness, credit and closing. Jon lends his 15 years of experience in the industry by teaching the mortgage section of the class. His presentation covers the home loan process, from application to closing, and explores differences between loan programs, such as FHA, Conventional, RD, and VA. He also reviews specialty programs, like MSHDA, and the City of Grand Rapids DPA (Down Payment Assistance).
Upon completion, attendees receive a Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) certificate. This certificate is needed when applying for a loan using the MSHDA Down Payment Assistance Program.
Since starting this journey, Jon has helped numerous people he met at the class reach their goal of homeownership. We are proud of his partnership with ICCF and the difference he is making in our community!
